Citrix Analytic Services, PreRelease Mini Deep Dive

Citrix Analytic Services

Citrix Released Insight Services for HDX (Citrix) and Web Traffic a couple years ago and it was and is a great solution but I think they have finally doubled down.  They were able to see the value of the data they had from the NetScaler AppFlow streams. This is a great step for them in the security realm, pricing and packaging will determine how many of their existing deployments they can get this deployed in and how many new customers are drawn. When I compare Citrix and VMware right now, VMware has NSX which is an advantage in how they package it but you can run it with Citrix too but at a higher cost because of the packaging. This more adaptive security model is very appealing and if you have NSX and this you are doing what you can for sure but it doesn’t mean you are unhackable either. I believe this is one of the best bolt on things they have ever added and if the pricing and packaging is right it will be a hit. Here are some of the slides from Citrix Synergy 2017 as we go into this. https://www.citrix.com/products/citrix-workspace/form/citrix-analytics/ Going over the same scenario we… Read more

Citrix Synergy 2017 Late Recap

Citrix Synergy 2017 Recap

First off this was my first year going not as a Partner but going as Independent Nerd. I have been going since 2007 to Citrix Events and this marked my 9th Synergy and earlier this year was my 10th Summit. High Level Agenda Changes Day 1 Vision and Tech Keynote + Expo Hall Day 2 Sessions + Malcom Gladwell + Sessions Day 3 Colin Powell + Sessions Normally they have a full day of sessions after a Keynote then Sessions each day with a couple announcements over 1-2 more keynotes. This time with the Tech Keynote there wasn’t any more announcements when it was done which was nice “Keynote Mic Drop Method”. There big announcement to me was Citrix Analytic Services and their focus on Security in every keynote. I will dive into it at the end. Major Announcements Citrix Security, Almost every PowerPoint, in every keynote revolved around security. Cool for me as a security nerd. Lots of SDWAN, Why to upgrade now, Good UniDesk sessions. Citrix Workspace Service, StoreFront Next Gen (Project Frontdoor) this is the VMware WorkspaceOne (Software Defined Perimeter, coined) Citrix Front Door getting ready XBOX 360 with Citrix, nerdy level 100. Citrix Analytic Services was… Read more

How to Install Citrix PowerShell Plugins Step by Step

How to Install Citrix PowerShell Plugins Step by Step In case you are just starting with Citrix and or PowerShell this should be helpful on showing you how to get going. This gets your admin workstation ready to do work from it instead of always remoting to the Delivery Controllers. You could just find these MSIs and Launch them all and walk through the wizards but creating this script will take less time and if anything it helps with understanding basic troubleshooting with scripting that can be used and how easy things can be scripted. I’m no scriptmaster I’m just lazy. This is a lazy way to make a quick installer file without any coding just some copying and pasting. There are always things you can script but sometimes it is easier and simpler to just do it manually because there are not that many items to work with. This is a way an old Microsoft Jedi taught me how make simple scripts quickly without typing it all out, “Sometimes it is easier to script and sometimes it is easier to just do it manually”. Have you been like I need to run something from Citrix commands from PowerShell and… Read more

Apple and the FBI

Phone Rights Apple and the FBI

As a Security Nerd and someone who has worked in the intelligence community I have followed some cases over the years but this one takes the cake for sure.  This is a big deal and below I will go over things in some pretty good detail of what the FBI wants from the Apple and how these things align with other legal precedents and some other related thoughts. Privacy has always been a very interesting thing since the commercialization of the computer and the internetification of the TCP\IP network.  Apple has done a lot for peoples privacy since the release of IOS with version 8 in late 2014 prevented the unlocking of data when a device was seized by law enforcement without the Passcode based on its AES 256 key system (iOS7 could self destruct with bad pass codes also, but IOS8 tied the encryption to it so you started to have to know it).  Then when IOS 9 came out they stepped it up again with two-factor enablement with TouchID and a couple other things to make it more better.  Also going from 4 digits (10k combinations) to now over a million combinations with 6 alphanumeric passcodes.  That becomes… Read more

Conference Summary – Synergy 2015

Citrix Synergy Banner 2015

I have been going to Synergy since 2008 when XenDesktop came out and now today when the most talked about thing is Workspace Cloud in 2015.  This was the last year in Orlando and next year it will be in Vegas.  The 2 years at each place has worked out well and the places they have picked have been good. Let’s get down to business of what they announced and some of the trends I saw while there. Session Stats 143 Presentations, 4801 Slides, Average Slide Count 47 Biggest PowerPoint, SYN416 HP Converged Reference Architecture 216 MB Most Slides, 255, AOL case study NetScaler for security and scalability – SYN251 Least Slides, 10, Meet the Winners of Citrix App Challenge – SYN224 Lots of XenMobile Upgrade Presentations, aka you should upgrade Lots of Workspace Cloud Presentations to try and set some expectations. Lots of great content from non-Citrix employees. Synergy 2015 Summary Simple Summary -Lots of cool stuff came out. Time will tell as always in IT.  We have to see if it all can install and not catch on fire and how the actual upgrade process goes. Citrix still Loves XenApp. They have realized that it still is the… Read more
